First Round of Potential Cuts
Music and Art are safe so far, but our elem P.E. programs are not! Yikes!
I am so thankful for Spring Break! This is my chance to rest, recuperate, and prepare for the next two months. Trust me, it is much needed! But not just for me …
Yes, I realize the rest of the working world doesn’t get a spring break. But the rest of the world does get vacation time when they choose! For me to take off even one school day if I’m sick means I have to spend hours and hours planning for someone else to jump in and teach my students - then worry constantly while I’m gone. That is certainly no vacation (and it’s no way to get well!). I’m so grateful to have a few worry-free days off!!
Could teachers do without a Spring Break? Of course. We’re adults. We could handle that, if necessary. But ask yourself this - is it really fair to require that of a 5 year old? More than anyone, the STUDENTS need this break! Spring break was created for them, not teachers. Look into any school the week or so leading up to spring break. The kids are tired. They are mentally drained (many have already been bombarded by rounds of days-long standardized tests). They are antsy and anxious to spend some free time outdoors! The weather is warmer, trees are budding, and the grass is turning greener by the day! It’s been calling to them. If anyone deserves to take that break, isn’t it the children??
So to those complainers out there who love to gripe about “lazy teachers” and all of their breaks, stop and think about what you’re saying. Do you really have students’ best interests at heart? Really??

Random tumblr feed led me to this post tonight. All I have to say is, “Ditto,” and at 27 years old I’m responsible for 470+ little kids (ages 5-12). How about you?
The Facebook comment I got today on an article I posted finally put me over the edge. So I’m going to write about it.
I read on CNN today an article posted by Diane Ravitch titled To my critics: Teachers deserve rights and found it really interesting. She starts off by specifically saying that…
Board meeting tonight. This is for real and this is scary.
